        NURDAĞI DISTRICT
        Nurdağı, 67 kms to the city center, is on the high way E-24. It is on a plain lowland and at the crossroads from north to south and east to west. According to the address-based population registration system of 2012, the total population of the city is 37.382, and the population of the city center is 16.947. The altitude is 570 m, the area is 798 squarekilometers. There are Hurşit mountains in the east and Amanos mountains in the west and south of the district. It gained a the district statue on 20 May 1990 with the law number 3644. Its economy depends on agriculture and stock raising. Cotton, wheat, sugarbeet and red pepper are grown in the district. An empy, barren and mountainous land of 160.000 square kilometers near Nurdağı is being afforested. (Emirmusa Hills) The pilgrimage place of Holy Ukkaşe (Ökkeşiye), in Durmuşlar village, is 19 kms to the district center. This pilgrimage place has a great importance on introducing the region.
